| Today is St. Patrick's day. I don't think my name or my family could get any more Irish, and it has always been a pretty big holiday in my family. We used to go visit my Grandmother and go to the parade in New York City. My parents would bundle me up, and I'd wear my wool tights, kilt, sweater, and matching cap. We'd wave Irish flags and then go home to have corned beef and cabbage. I even took step dancing lessons briefly as a child. Our house was more decorated for St. Patrick's day than for any other holiday except for Christmas. I bought some green tulips and baked some Irish soda bread (with an x on top to ward off the devil.) Tonight when I get home from work, I'm boiling up some cabbage, carrots, and potatoes, and enjoying a pint (or three) of Guinness. I think it's positively awesome that a holiday once about going to church is now about eating and getting drunk. I am damn proud to be Irish. |
